Headlamp Switch: Description and Operation
Headlamp Switch
The three-position headlamp switch is located on the left side of the instrument panel on the instrument panel finish panel. The functions of the
three-position headlamp switch are:
-
First position (OFF): No lamps are illuminated. The headlamp switch must be in this position for the autolamp system to operate.
-
Second position: All the lamps on the list, except the headlamps, illuminate.
-
Third position: All the lamps on the list Illuminate.
The three-position headlamp switch controls these components:
-
Headlamps.
-
Cornering/parking lamps.
-
Front and rear side marker lamps.
-
Stop/parking lamps.
-
License plate lamps.
-
Ash receptacle lamp.
-
Instrument panel lamps.
-
Instrument cluster lamps.
-
Autolamp/light switch rheostat resistor (dimmer switch).
-
Autolamp system.
The high beam and flash-to-pass features are incorporated in the multi-function switch. The high beam function is selected by pushing the multi-function
switch away from the driver to its stop. The multi-function switch will remain in the high beam position when it is released. Low beams are selected by
pulling the multi-function switch toward the driver, from the high beam position, to the center position. The multi-function switch will remain in the low
beam position when it is released.
To operate the flash-to-pass feature, pull the multi-function switch gently toward the driver and hold for as long as the high beams are needed. When the
multi-function switch is released, it will return to the low beam position. If driving without the headlamps on, use of the flash-to-pass feature will turn on
the high beams until the multi-function switch is released. If the low beams are turned on, both the low and high beams will be on until the multi-function
switch is released.
Excessive force used to hold the multi-function switch in the flash-to-pass function followed by a quick release may result in incorrect selection of high
beam.
