Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

WARNING:  

-

Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable
mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury. 

-

Fuel supply tubes will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shutdown.  this pressure must be relieved before servicing of the
fuel system is begun.

NOTE: 

-

Before disconnecting any fuel tube, release the fuel pressure from the fuel system to reduce the possibility of injury or fire.

Use a rag as protection from the fuel spray when disconnecting the hoses. 

-

Plug the hoses after disconnection.

PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the LH engine compartment relay panel cover.

2. Remove the fuel pump relay from the LH engine compartment relay panel.
3. Start the engine.
4. After the engine stalls, crank the engine over two more times to be sure all the pressure has been released.
5. Turn the ignition switch OFF and install the fuel pump relay.
