Spare Tire: Description and Operation
OPERATION
The temporary spare tire is mounted on a steel wheel and is stored underneath the vehicle. A scissors-type jack, jack handle, and lug nut wrench are
secured in the right quarter panel of the cargo area.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
WARNING: THE TEMPORARY SPARE TIRE IS PROVIDED ONLY FOR TEMPORARY EMERGENCY USE. DO NOT USE AS A
REGULAR TIRE. SERVICE AND REPLACE THE REGULAR TIRE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ANY CONTINUOUS ROAD USE OF
THIS TEMPORARY, EMERGENCY TIRE MAY RESULT IN TIRE FAILURE, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, AND POSSIBLE
INJURY TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
(1) Check pressure in the temporary spare tire at least monthly. If the temporary spare tire is in use, check the pressure when the vehicle has been
stopped at least three hours or driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile). Do not reduce the pressure when the temporary spare tire is hot. Use a tire gauge to
check the pressure and maintain it at 415 kPa (60 psi).
(2) Never overload tires on a vehicle. Each individual tire load should never exceed the tire load capacity molded on the sidewall of the tire or the
vehicle maximum load rating. Refer to the Owner Guide for additional information on driving with a heavy load, trailer towing, and limiting
vehicle load.
(3) Do not use the temporary spare tire for extended mileage or for speeds above 80 km/h (50 mph).
(4) Remove the temporary spare tire as soon as the conventional tire can be serviced or replaced. Avoid abusive use such as driving over potholes and
curbs. Never drive on smooth tires. Tires should be replaced when 1.5 mm (1/16 inch) of tread depth remains as indicated by tread wear indicators
molded into tread grooves.
(5) Do not use tire chains with the temporary spare.
(6) Do not use the temporary spare for tire rotation.
(7) Do not attempt to service or remove the temporary spare from its wheel.
(8) Do not attempt to use the temporary spare tire for any other type of tire.
NOTE: Some vehicles may be equipped with a full size spare tire. If so, this spare can be used for an extended period of time.
