Vehicle Lifting: Service and Repair

Lifting Instructions

CAUTION:  Do not allow the lifting pads to contact the suspension components. Vehicle damage may occur if care is not exercised when positioning
the lifting pads of twin-post hoists prior to lifting the vehicle.

Drive On Hoist 

To prevent possible damage to the underbody, do not drive the vehicle onto the drive on hoist without first checking for possible interference between
the upright flanges of the hoist rails and the underbody. Should there be interference, the hoist flanges should be modified as necessary and/or the
approach ramps built up to provide the necessary clearance.

Frame Contact Hoist 

CAUTION:  All four contact points must contact the adapters.
On frame contact hoists, adapters are necessary to lift the vehicle. The adapters must be placed at the four contact points. Position the adapters so they
are centered on the contact points.

Twin Post Hoist

CAUTION:  Never allow the vehicle to be lifted by suspension components.
When hoisting a vehicle, always position the lifting pads so that they are in contact with the vehicle frame.

Floor Jack

WARNING:  THE JACK PROVIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IS INTENDED ONLY TO BE USED IN AN EMERGENCY FOR CHANGING
A DEFLATED TIRE. NEVER USE THE JACK TO HOIST THE VEHICLE FOR ANY OTHER SERVICE. REFER TO THE OWNER'S
MANUAL WHEN USING THE JACK SUPPLIED WITH THE VEHICLE.

CAUTION:

Under no conditions should the jack or chassis stand come in contact with the suspension components. Severe damage to the vehicle could result.

Before starting any repairs that involve jacking the vehicle, it is important to understand the vehicle jacking instructions.

The positions shown are the only acceptable locations for jacking and supporting the vehicle.

When jacking the rear of the vehicle on the rear axle housing, ensure that the jack head does not damage the rear stabilizer bar (if equipped).

When jacking the complete vehicle, always jack and support the rear end first.

When using body sill locations, use only stands with cushion pads. They will prevent accidental damage to the paint or body.

Use only four-legged stands and position them under the vehicle so that two of the four stand legs always point toward the side of the vehicle.

NOTE:  The following illustrations show the location points for positioning jacking equipment other than the jack supplied with the vehicle. Be sure that
only the correct jacking and support locations are used at all times.
