Idle Speed: Adjustments
Without New Generation Star (NGS) Tester

1. Apply the parking brake and make sure that the gearshift lever is set in NEUTRAL (N) or PARK (P)
2. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn off all electrical loads and accessories.
4. Connect a tachometer following the manufacturer's installation procedure.
5. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector.

CAUTION: Do not check the idle speed while the engine cooling fan motor is operating.

6. Check the vehicle's idle speed using the tachometer.

The idle speed should be between 650-750 rpm. 

7. If the idle speed is not within specifications, adjust the idle speed by turning the idle speed adjusting screw until the idle speed is within

specification.

8. Turn off the engine.
9. Remove the tachometer.

10. Connect the IAC valve electrical connection.
