Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Partially drain the cooling system. 
2. Remove the air cleaner to intake manifold tube.

3. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connectors.
4. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
5. Disconnect the speed control actuator cable, if equipped.
6. Disconnect the fuel vapor canister to throttle body vacuum hose.
7. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation vacuum regulator solenoid to throttle body vacuum hose.
8. Disconnect the throttle body coolant hoses.

9. Remove the four Allen head throttle body bolts.

10. Remove the throttle body and gasket.

Discard the gasket.

CAUTION: 

-

Use a manual gasket scraper ONLY.

-

Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material.  

-

Do not gouge or scratch the aluminum sealing surface.

INSTALLATION 

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. 

-

Install a new gasket on the throttle body.

2. Tighten the throttle body bolts in two steps.

-

Step 1: 9-11 Nm (80-97 in lb). 

-

Step 2: 18-22 Nm (13-16 ft lb). 

3. Fill the cooling system.

-

Adjust the idle speed. 

-

Adjust the TP sensor.  

4. Tighten the TP sensor screws to 2.0-2.4 Nm (17-21 in lb).
