Fuel Gauge Sender: Description and Operation
With Analog Instrument Cluster
Description
The fuel level sensor is attached to the fuel pump assembly and consists of a variable resistor controlled by the level of an attached float in the fuel
tank. When the fuel level is low, resistance in the fuel level sensor is low and movement of the gauge indicator dial is minimal (empty (E) position).
When the fuel level is high, the resistance in the fuel level sensor is high, and the gauge indicator dial movement is greater (full (F) position).
Operation
When the fuel level drops to approximately 9.5 liters (2.5 gallons), the fuel level sensor supplies voltage to the fuel indicator module to illuminate the
low fuel indicator.
