Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection
Flow and Pressure Test

TEST EQUIPMENT

Power Steering Analyzer Fitting D87P-33610-A1 or equivalent.

^

Power Steering Analyzer Fitting D87P-33610-A2 or equivalent.

^

Thermometer.

^

Digital Tachometer.

^

Rotunda Power Steering System Analyzer 014-00207 or equivalent.

TEST PROCEDURE 

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the junction block, letting the power steering fluid drain.

3. Attach Rotunda Power Steering System Analyzer 014-00207 or equivalent with Power Steering Analyzer Fittings D87P-33610-A1 and

D87P-33610-A2 or equivalents between the power steering pressure hose and junction block as shown. Tighten the fittings to 39-49 Nm (29-36 ft.
lbs.). 

4. Place a thermometer in the power steering oil reservoir.
5. Bleed the system using the following procedure:

a. Check the fluid level in the power steering oil reservoir. Add fluid if necessary.
b. Turn the key ON with the engine not running.
c. Turn the steering wheel fully left and fully right 10 times.
d. Recheck the fluid level. If the level has dropped, add fluid.
e. Repeat steps c and d until the fluid level stabilizes.
f.

Start the engine and let it idle.

g. Turn the steering wheel fully left and fully right ten times.
h. Verify that the fluid is not foamy. If the fluid is foamy, there is still air in the system. Repeat steps b through g.

NOTE: If foam is still present after repeating the steps, check the system for an air leak.

If the fluid level has decreased, add fluid and repeat steps g and h until the level does not change.

CAUTION:

Make sure the valve on the power steering system analyzer is OPEN to allow the system to function normally. If the engine is started with
