Wheel Bearing: Testing and Inspection
Rear

Bearing End Play

1. Raise the vehicle and remove the rear wheel and brake drum. 
2. Position Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-4201-C or equivalent so that the tip of the dial indicator rests on the rear hub.
3. Push and pull the rear hub by hand in the axial direction and measure the rear wheel bearing play.
4. If the rear wheel bearing play exceeds 0.05 mm (0.002 inch), check and adjust the rear axle wheel hub retainer torque or replace the rear hub if

necessary.

5. Install the brake drum and wheel.

Inspection

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and check for loose rear wheel bearings by rocking the tires at the top and bottom.
2. Spin the tire quickly by hand and make sure the tire turns smoothly without noise from the rear wheel bearings.
3. If looseness or noise is found, replace the rear wheel bearings.
