Drive Belt: Adjustments
A/C
Tension Adjustment
1. NOTE: A drive belt is considered new if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.
Adjust the A/C drive belt tension.
1. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt.
2. Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt while using a suitable tension gauge to measure the tension of the A/C belt
midway between the A/C clutch pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
-
The tension for the A/C compressor drive belt should measure between 603 and 691 N (136 and 155 lbs.) for a new belt or between 495
and 583 N (112 and 131 lbs.) for a used belt.
-
Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt.
Deflection Adjustment
NOTE: Always check the drive belt deflection when the engine is cold, or has been stopped for a minimum of 30 minutes.
NOTE: A belt is considered new if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.
Measure the A/C drive belt deflection by applying 98 N (22 lbs.) of pressure to the A/C compressor drive belt midway between the A/C compressor
and the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley.
-
The A/C drive belt deflection should measure between 4 and 6 mm (0.16 and 0.24 inch) for a new drive belt, or between 5 and 7 mm (0.20 and
0.28 inch) for a used drive belt. Adjust as necessary.
