Speedometer Head: Description and Operation
With Electronic Instrument Cluster
The speedometer and odometer provides speed information based on a speed/distance pulse signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The VSS is
mounted on the speedometer driven gear, in the transaxle. The VSS will send eight pulse signals to the instrument cluster per one rotation of the
speedometer driven gear. The odometer mileage and the two trip odometers are stored in the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) of the electronic instrument
cluster. If the odometer mileage cannot be retrieved from the NVM, the word Error will be displayed in the odometer display.
