Trailer Lamps: Description and Operation
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
The trailer lamps 4-pin connector includes the following lamp outputs:
^
turn signals
^
stoplamps
^
tail lamps
^
hazard flasher lamps
The tail lamps output is directly from the tail lamp relay located in the fuse junction panel. The remaining lamp outputs are directly from the trailer
tow control unit.
Trailer Tow Control Unit
The trailer tow control unit (located behind the LR cargo shelf trim panel) directly controls the outputs to the following trailer lamps:
^
turn signals
^
stoplamps
^
hazard flasher lamps
The trailer tow control unit regulates the amount of voltage supplied to the trailer lamps when it receives an input from either turn signal, the
stoplamps or the hazard warning flasher lamps. If the trailer tow control unit receives a stoplamp input during either a turn signal or a hazard
flasher lamp event, it supplies more voltage to the trailer lamps to illuminate them brighter.
