Engine Control Module: Reset Procedure
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reset allows a scan tool to command the PCM to clear all emission-related diagnostic information.
The following events occur when a PCM reset is performed:

Clears the number of Diagnostic Trouble codes (DTCs).

Clears the DTCs.

Clears the freeze frame data.
-
Clears oxygen sensor test data.
-
Resets On Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) System Readiness Tests (SRT) to the "NO" status.
PCM Reset Using a New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester
1. Key OFF.
2. Perform the necessary vehicle preparation and visual inspection.
3. Turn key ON.
4. Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION menu (OPTIONAL).
5. Select NEW VEHICLE YEAR & MODEL.
6. Select year, engine, model with the appropriate qualifier, if needed (i.e., transmission, 49 state, California) (OPTIONAL).
7. Follow operating instructions from the menu.
8. Select GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS.

Press CONT button if all OBD II System Readiness Tests (SRT) are not complete.
9. Select CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC CODES.
10. Press START Key.
Resetting Keep Alive Random Access Memory (RAM)
Disconnect the negative (-) lead from the battery for 24 hours (this will also result in the PCM reset described above). Resetting keep alive Random
Access Memory (RAM) will also clear learned values the PCM has stored for adaptive systems such as Idle and Fuel. Once the vehicle is driven, the
PCM will relearn new adaptive values. It will take a few miles and the vehicle may run rough until the values are relearned.
