ft.lbs) using Crankshaft Pulley Wrench T81P-6312-A or equivalent.
NOTE:
Refer to specifications for special torque wrench information to calculate the torque readings required to compensate for the pulley wrench and
the length of the torque wrench.
5.
To seat the belt on the sprocket teeth proceed as follows:
a.
Connect the cable to the battery negative terminal.
b.
Crank the engine for 30 seconds.
c.
Disconnect the cable from the battery negative terminal.
d.
Turn the camshaft, as necessary, to align the timing pointer on the cam sprocket with the
^
timing mark on the cylinder head.
e.
Position the timing belt cover on the engine and confirm that the timing mark on the crankshaft aligns with the TDC pointer on the cover.
If the timing marks do not align, remove the belt, align the timing marks and return to Step 1.
6.
Loosen the belt tensioner attaching bolt tightened in Step 3.
7.
To prevent rotation of the crankshaft, have a helper hold the crankshaft using Wrench T81P- 6312-A or equivalent.
In Step 8 a specified amount of torque will be applied to the camshaft sprocket. While the torque is applied, the crankshaft must not be allowed to
turn.
8.
With the crankshaft held, turn the cam sprocket counterclockwise using Camshaft Holding Tool D81P-6256-A or equivalent and a torque wrench.
Tighten the belt tensioner attaching bolt when the torque wrench reads as follows:
New Belt:
39-43 N-m (27-32 ft.lb) Used Belt*: 14 N-m (10 ft.lb) *30 days, or more, in service.
NOTE:
The engine must be at ambient temperature when the torque is applied to the cam sprocket. DO NOT SET TORQUE ON A HOT
ENGINE.
9.
Install the timing belt cover.
10.
Install accessory drive belts and adjust to the specified tension.
11.
Connect the negative cable at the battery.
12.
Remove the protective covers.
13.
Close the hood.

Camshaft Seal
Removal
CAUTION: With the timing belt removed and pistons at T.D.C. Do not rotate the camshaft. If the camshaft must be rotated, align the crankshaft pulley
90 degrees B.T.C.
1.
Raise the hood and secure it in the open position.
2.
Install protective covers on the fenders.
3.
Disconnect the cable from the battery negative terminal.
4.
Remove the accessory drive belts.
5.
Remove the timing belt cover.
NOTE:
Align timing mark on camshaft sprocket with the timing mark on the cylinder head.
6.
Install the timing belt cover and confirm that the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley align with the T.D.C. on the front cover.
