Zephyr L6-200 3.3L (1982)
Timing Cover: Service and Repair
To replace the seal in the timing gear cover, it is necessary to remove the cover as outlined below.

Removal
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain cooling system and oil pan.
3.
Disconnect radiator hoses from engine, then the transmission oil cooler lines from radiator, if equipped.
4.
Remove radiator, then the drive belt, fan and pulley.
5.
If equipped with A/C, remove condenser attaching bolts and position condenser forward with refrigerant lines attached. Remove compressor drive
belt.
6.
On all models, remove accessory drive pulley and the crankshaft damper with a suitable puller.
7.
Remove front cover attaching screws from cover and oil pan. Pry cover from cylinder block slightly and cut oil pan gasket flush with front face of
cylinder block.
8.
Clean mating surfaces of cylinder block and front cover.
Installation
1.
Apply oil resistant sealer to new front cover gasket and position gasket on front cover. Apply sealer to exposed area of gasket.
2.
Apply sealer to gasket surface of oil pan. Cut and position the required portions of a new gasket on oil pan. Apply sealer to exposed areas of
gasket, including the corners where contact is made with the front cover gasket.
3.
Install front cover.
4.
Lubricate hub of crankshaft damper with Lubriplate or equivalent, then install damper. Torque attaching bolt to specifications.
5.
Install accessory drive pulley.
6.
Reverse ``Removal'' steps 1 through 5 to complete installation.
