Spark Knock During Acceleration - Cold

Ford
1982 Mustang, Fairmont, Granada

Lincoln-mercury
1982 Capri. Zephyr, Cougar

Excessive spark knock during acceleration while the engine is cold (0-2 miles after start-up), may be caused by a vacuum regulator valve filter. If the
filter on the lower port of the vacuum regulator valve -9F490- becomes plugged, full manifold vacuum will develop at the distributor rather than the
regulated 6" vacuum.

To Service this condition:

1.

Remove the vacuum check valve (VCKV) from the line to the top port of the vacuum regulator valve (VRV) and insert a straight connector
(383003-S).
