Carburetor Float: Adjustments

Note:  Most adjustments are set by the factory to meet engine emission, economy and performance requirements.

Electric Bowl Vent Assembly Check

1.

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

2.

Turn ignition switch to the On position.  Attach a hand vacuum pump with a 3/8 inch adapter, to the carburetor canister vent hose connector and
apply 5-10 inches Hg.

3.

If no vacuum is held, remove the air horn and disassemble the switch and vent from the air horn casting or replace the bowl vent as required.  If
vacuum is held, proceed to next step.

4.

With ignition Off, apply the same vacuum in previous step to internal vent tube.  If no vacuum is held, remove the air horn and disassemble the
switch and vent from the air horn casting.  Service or replace the switch as required.

5.

If vacuum is held in all previous steps, the electric bowl vent assembly is functioning properly.  Install the air cleaner assembly.

Accelerator Pump Stroke Adjustment

1.

The inner pump rod slot closest to the spring is the number one slot, while the slot farthest from the spring is number two.

2.

Check the length of the accelerator pump operating link from its outside edge at the accelerator pump rod to its inside edge at the number two slot. 
The dimension should be 2.385-2.405 inches.

3.

Adjust to proper length by bending loop in operating link. 

Fuel Float Level Dry Adjustment

1.

Remove the carburetor air horn.  Place a finger over float hinge pin retainer, and invert the main body.  Catch the accelerator pump check ball and
weight.

2.

Using a straight edge, check the position of the floats.  If adjustment is required, bend the float tabs to raise or lower the float level.  Once
adjustment is correct, turn main body right side up, and check the float alignment.  The float should move freely throughout its range without
contacting the fuel bowl walls.  If the float pontoons are misaligned, straighten by bending the float arms.  Recheck the float level adjustment.

3.

During assembly, insert the check ball first and then the weight.
