Timing Chain: Service and Repair

11 31 051 - Replacing timing chain

Special tools required:

11 2 000 See: Tools and Equipment/11 2 000 Puller

-

11 8 250 See: Tools and Equipment/11 8 250 Pin Wrench

-

11 8 300 See: Tools and Equipment/11 8 300 Puller Plate

-

11 8 370 See: Tools and Equipment/11 8 370 Support Bracket

Necessary preliminary tasks:

-

Unscrew all spark plugs See: Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Spark Plug/Service and Repair.

Remove cylinder head cover.

-

Remove pulse generator on camshaft See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Camshaft Position Sensor/Service and Repair.

-

Remove hydraulic chain tensioner.

-

Remove timing chain cover.

-

Remove left engine mounting See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Engine Mount/Service and Repair/Replacing Right Engine
Mount.

Fit special tool 11 8 370 See: Tools and Equipment/11 8 370 Support Bracket on cylinder block (1) and engine mounting (2).
