N18 - Cooper S Exhaust Popping Sound

MODEL
R55 Cooper Clubman S, R56 and R57 Cooper S and R60 Cooper Countryman S with N18 engine

SITUATION

The vehicle exhibits an acoustic feedback (popping) of the exhaust system under the following conditions:

^ "Sport" mode activated

^ Engine braking during deceleration in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear

The popping noise from the exhaust system can also be described as a "backfire" from the engine.

INFORMATION

The "Sport Mode" exhaust acoustic feedback is considered a normal operation/characteristic of the N18 engine, enhancing the vehicle's sporty heritage.

No diagnostic or repair attempts should be conducted for such a condition.
