Fig. 39  Rocker Cover Tightening Sequence

1.

Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT.

2.

Remove camshafts as outlined under CAMSHAFT & ROCKER ARM SERVICE.

3.

Remove exhaust manifolds as outlined under EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

4.

Replace cylinder head gasket in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 43, noting the following when installing:
a. Using cylinder head bolt wrench tool No. MD998051-01 or equivalent, remove cylinder head bolts.
b. Ensure correct head gasket is used on engine. Cylinder head gaskets marked with a 2DN are for non-turbocharged engines and cylinder head

gaskets marked with a 2DT are for turbocharged engines.

c. Using cylinder head bolt wrench tool, tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in two to three stages in sequence shown in Fig. 44.
d. Back off head bolts then retighten as done in step c.
e. Tighten rocker cover bolts in order shown in Fig. 39. Only No. 5 bolt in rear bank differs from other bolts in length, rear bank No. 5 bolt

is .79 inch long and remaining bolts in rear bank are .39 inch long. Bolts are color coded for installation, front bank bolts are black
and rear bank bolts are green. When rocker cover gasket has been replaced, tighten bolts in this order and then torque bolts one to six
to 2.9 ft. lbs.
