Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Drain cooling system and disconnect heater hoses.
3. Remove center console and instrument panel as outlined under  BODY ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND ENTERTAINMENT/INSTRUMENT

PANELS AND CLUSTERS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.

4. Remove center reinforcement, Fig. 21. 
5. Remove undercover, foot distribution, foot shower and lap cooler ducts.
6. On models with air conditioning, remove evaporator assembly as outlined under EVAPORATOR CORE.
7. On all models, remove center duct.
8. To prevent bolts from falling into blower assembly, set air selection damper to outside air induction position.
9. Remove heater unit assembly.

10. Remove plate from heater unit.
11. Remove heater core from heater unit. Use caution not to damage heater core fins or pad part of heater core.
12. Reverse procedure to install, rearming the airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM

DISARMING.
