Remove the control lever assembly from the transaxle case. If the spring on the end of the control lever's shaft remains inside the transaxle, use a
magnetic screwdriver to retrieve it.

Inspect the removed control lever assembly. Make sure the reverse lockout mechanism and attaching bolt are still in place. If they are not, the
transaxle assembly must be replaced. Refer to Section 22 of the service manual for removal and installation instructions.

If the reverse lockout mechanism and attaching bolt are still present on the control lever assembly, continue with Step 8.

Discard the shift cable control lever assembly and its two assembly bolts.

Apply adhesive sealer (Three-Bond 1216 or equivalent) on the flange of the new control lever assembly. Install the new control lever assembly
into the mounting point on the transaxle case, making sure to align the flange as shown in the diagram. Tighten the new assembly bolts 10 N-m
(7.3 ft.lbs.).

10.

Install the upper shift control lever and the plastic aligning block. Tighten the bolts of the upper shift control lever 18 N-m (13 ft.lbs.).
