PURPOSE
This bulletin provides a detailed procedure for inspecting 2.0L 1984 and 1985 model Californiaspecification Cordia and Tredia vehicles to correct any
emissions-control system tampering which may have occurred on these models. A letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles telling them
to return their vehicles to a Mitsubishi dealer to have the engine serviced. A copy of this letter is shown on page 10 of this bulletin.
Please note that the customer is not to be charged for the repairs covered by this bulletin. However, if other work is performed, for example replacement
of an air filter or other parts or repairs requested by the customer, then these parts and repairs would require customer approval and payment.
To achieve the desired results, it is important that the procedure be followed EXACTLY as described in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This procedure applies to 1984 and 1985 model California 2.0L Cordia and Tredia (non-turbo only) vehicles with manual and automatic transaxle
without limitation as to mileage. It does not apply to any other models.
IMPORTANT DEALER INSTRUCTIONS
In an effort to obtain more compliance with this Service Campaign, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Department of Motor
Vehicles (DMV) are beginning a new monitoring program. Before the vehicle can be registered, the DMV may require some owners of the affected
vehicles to show proof that the repairs described in this bulletin have been performed. Therefore, it is important that the following statement be written
clearly on the customer copy of the repair order.
"SERVICE CAMPAIGN TSB-88-14-001 HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE"
Your careful attention to this matter will help to reduce possible customer dissatisfaction with this Service Campaign.
