The bolt retainer has serrations on its inside diameter to hold it securely and prevent the arms from separating. Use a pair of needle-nose
pliers to slightly flatten the serrations, decreasing the inside diameter to ensure a tight fit.

Reinstall the vent door lever and the control arm to the heater case.
NOTE:
For ease of installation, tape the floor and defroster vent doors in the closed position and turn the blower on high when installing the vent
door arm into the vent door shaft. Taping the vent doors shut with the blower on creates air pressure that raises the vent lever position
for easier installation. Remove the tape when installation is complete.

The vent door lever should have about 60 degrees (1/4 turn) of movement. If it rotates freely in a full circle, remove and reinstall it.

To ensure proper operation, adjust the lever timing as follows:
a.
Disconnect the linkage rod from the rod holder.
b.
Rotate the control arm right and left, to confirm that it is not binding.
c.
Turn the ignition key to ON.
