Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear tire and wheel assembly.

3. Remove rear axle hub in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 1, noting the following:

a. When removing rear speed sensor, use care not to strike pole piece against teeth of rotor or other components.
b. Remove brake caliper leaving brake hose attached, then support to frame using suitable wire. Do not allow caliper to hang by hose.
c. Care must be taken not to scratch or damage teeth of speed sensor rotor. Rotor must never be dropped.

4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. After tightening flange nut, crimp nut at concave portion of spindle.
b. Install rear speed sensor and insert a 0.008-0.028 inch feeler gauge between speed sensor pole piece and rotor's toothed surface and tighten.
