SEATBELT REMINDER LIGHT BLINKING ON ECLIPSE

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES ATIN-89-23-002 PUBLISHED MARCH 15, 1989
PURPOSE This bulletin describes a possible cause and corrective action to follow when the Eclipse seatbelt light blinks while the car is being driven.
DESCRIPTION The Eclipse has a seatbelt reminder light in the instrument cluster and a buzzer for the passive restraint system. These are to remind you
that one or both of the passive restraint shoulder belts are not buckled to the moving anchors.
Please note the following conditions:
Symptom # 1 The reminder light and buzzer come on intermittently while driving (usually when a tall slender person is driving).
Symptom # 2 The reminder light comes on and stays on when the front passenger seat is unoccupied.
If either condition occurs on a vehicle built before March 1989, the shoulder belt retractor assembly in the back of the center console has a misadjusted
sensor and the retractor assembly must be replaced. This assembly contains both shoulder belt retractors in one unit.
A misadjusted sensor can be verified as the cause by pulling out on the suspected shoulder belt a couple of inches while driving. If the light goes out,
replace the shoulder belt retractor assembly.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISASSEMBLE OR ADJUST THE RETRACTOR ASSEMBLY.
The blinking seatbelt light due to the above condition does not impair the performance of the passive restraint system, but should be rectified for
customer convenience and satisfaction.
