Wheels - Vibration On Early Production Model
SUBJECT:
WHEEL VIBRATION ON EARLY PRODUCTION ECLIPSE

MODEL:
1990 ECLIPSE
PURPOSE This bulletin describes possible sources of wheel vibration that may be experienced on some early production Eclipse vehicles, with the
corrective action to be taken.
WHEEL VIBRATION CAUSE AND CORRECTION If you experience wheel vibration on an Eclipse, the most likely cause could be tire balance.
The first step should be to balance the wheels and check tire pressure (29 psi front and 26 psi rear - cold).
If you experience a steering wheel vibration with mild brake pedal pulsation on Eclipses produced before December 1988, up to and including VIN #
002330, there is a possibility that the front disc brake rotors may not fit perfectly flat against the hub.
The front disc brake rotors used before the above changeover point may have an inside chamfer that is not cut sufficiently to clear a machined radius on
the hub. This chamfer was 2 - 2.5mm. Vehicles produced after the above changeover point have a chamfer of 4 - 4.5mm which will clear the radius. The
smaller chamfer will keep the rotor from sitting flush against the hub, thus throwing the wheel and rotor slighty out of true.
Front disc brake rotors on Eclipse vehicles which have a chamfer of 2 - 2.5mm should be replaced. They will be found only on some vehicles built
before the above changeover date.
