Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Rear Disc Brakes

AD30P & AD35P Calipers

1. Remove boot ring from caliper body, then the piston boot.
2. Twist piston out of caliper body using suitable tool.
3. Press spring case into caliper body using a 0.75 inch diameter steel pipe, then remove snap ring from caliper body using a suitable tool.
4. Remove spring case, return spring, washer and stopper from caliper body.
5. Pull auto-adjuster spindle out of caliper body and remove connecting link at the same time.
6. Remove O-ring from auto-adjuster spindle. Use caution not to scratch cylinder walls.
7. Remove piston seal from caliper body.
8. Disconnect return spring, then remove parking brake lever attaching nut.
9. Pull parking brake lever and spindle lever out of caliper body, then remove lever boot.

10. Pull sleeve, boot and lid out of the caliper body.
11. Remove guide pin and sleeve from caliper support.
12. Check connecting link and spindle for wear or damage. Replace as required.
13. Check caliper body, spindle lever shaft and piston for cracks or rust. Repair or replace as required.
14. Apply suitable grease to new piston seal and cylinder walls, then install piston seal into cylinder.
15. Apply suitable grease to bearing, spindle lever shaft, boot lever, connecting link, auto-adjuster spindle and caliper body.
16. Align hole in bearing with hole in connecting link.
17. Press dust boot into caliper body, then install shaft with groove facing hole in bearing.
18. Install connecting link from cylinder side.
19. Install O-ring on auto-adjuster spindle, then coat it with suitable brake fluid.
20. Install auto-adjuster spindle, then the stopper, spring washer, spring and spring case into caliper body.
21. Press in spring case using a suitable .75 inch diameter pipe, then install snap ring in caliper body and remove pipe. Install snap ring in caliper

body with opening facing bleeder.

22. Twist piston in cylinder using a suitable tool.
23. Apply suitable grease to piston boot mounting grooves in caliper body and piston, then install piston boot and boot ring.
24. Install guide pin and sleeve into caliper support.
25. Apply suitable grease to sliding part of sleeve, caliper body, boot mounting groove and lid mounting.
26. Press in lid until edges are in contact with caliper body.
27. Attach caliper support to caliper assembly.

MR45S Caliper

1. Remove boot ring.
2. Place rag in front of piston, then remove piston and dust boot by applying compressed air through brake hose fitting hole. Keep fingers clear of

front of piston.

3. Remove piston seal. Use caution not to scratch the cylinder walls.
4. Remove sleeve and boot from caliper body.
5. Check cylinder and piston for wear, damage and/or corrosion. Repair or replace as required.
6. Check caliper body and sleeve for wear. Replace as required.
7. Apply suitable brake fluid to the cylinder walls.
8. Apply an even coat of suitable grease to the new piston seal, then install seal in cylinder.
9. Install piston into cylinder. Use caution not to twist piston seal.

10. Apply suitable grease to dust boot, then install boot on piston.
11. Attach piston boot onto cylinder with the boot ring.
12. Apply suitable grease to sliding parts of caliper body and sleeves, guide pin and lockpin boot.

Removal/Installation

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheel.
2. Disconnect parking brake cable from caliper assembly.
3. Disconnect brake hoses and brake tubes.
4. Remove lockpins from caliper assembly, noting position for installation reference.
5. Remove caliper assembly to adapter attaching bolts.
6. Remove caliper assembly.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Install lockpins into original position using marks on pin head and marks on caliper body.
b. Tighten bolts to specifications.
c. Bleed brake system as outlined under Brake System Bleed.
