Attach the EATX III/Engine harness to the Reprogramming Unit. Refer to Reprogramming Unit Instruction Manual.
5.
Set the switch on the harness black box to the side labeled ENGINE.
6.
Connect the EATX III/Engine harness 16-pin and 12-pin connectors to the vehicle's data link connector.
7.
Install Reprogramming Cartridge MIT992009 into the Reprogramming Unit.
8.
Follow the displayed instructions on the Reprogramming Unit screen.
9.
The display will ask if you want to change the controller part number. Select Yes. Reprogramming will begin.
NOTE:
If the PCM has already been reprogrammed for this condition, the displayed current and replacement part numbers will be the same, or the message
"BREAK NOT SEEN" will display. If so, do not continue with this procedure.
10.
Current and replacement PCM part numbers will display. Record the replacement part number displayed.
11.
When completed, disconnect the reprogramming unit and the EATX III/Engine harness.
12.
Start the engine and allow to idle. Listen for a ticking noise from the evaporative emission purge solenoid, located in the right front of the engine
compartment.

If the ticking noise is present, continue with Step 12a for solenoid replacement.

If there is no ticking noise, proceed to Step 13.

If there is no ticking noise but the customer has complained of previously hearing the ticking noise, continue with Step 12a for solenoid
replacement.

Replace the evaporative emission purge solenoid as follows:
(1)
Raise the vehicle.
(2)
Remove the right front wheel and splash shield.
(3)
Replace the evaporative emission purge solenoid, using parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
(4)
Reinstall the splash shield and right front wheel.
