Turbocharger Oil Outlet Pipe - Leaks

TURBOCHARGER OIL OUTLET PIPE TORQUE CHANGE BACKGROUND

Certain turbocharged 1995 Eclipses may experience oil leakage at the oil pipe fining of the turbocharger oil feed pipe. To improve reliability, a running
change in production increased the torque specification for that fining from 19 Nm (14 ft.lbs.) to 23.5 Nm (17.1 ft.lbs.). If an Eclipse built before the
VIN sequence number listed below experiences this type of leakage, retorque the fining to the new specification.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

The new torque specification applies to all 1995 turbocharged Eclipses. The corrective procedure applies to all 1995 turbocharged Eclipses with VIN
sequence numbers lower than 4A3A_54F_SE079217 which experience the condition. (In the VIN sequence number, the fifth digit may be either K for
FWD or L for AWD. Both apply to the VIN sequence number.)

CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE

1.

Loosen the fining.

2.

Clean the oil pipe fining threads. Be sure the threads are dry.

3.

Retorque the fining to 23.5 Nm (17.1 ft.lbs.)

NOTE:

It is not necessary to remove the turbocharger heat protector. Access the oil pipe fitting from below the turbocharger assembly.
