Eclipse L4-1996cc 2.0L DOHC (1995)
Clutch Disc: Service and Repair
1. Remove transaxle as outlined under Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
2. Insert clutch disc guide tool No. MD998126, or equivalent, into center hole to prevent dropping of clutch disc, then diagonally loosen bolts that
hold clutch cover assembly to remove clutch cover assembly. Do not clean clutch disc or release bearing with cleaning solvent.
3. Remove snap ring and clevis pin, then the release cylinder assembly, if equipped.
4. Remove return clip, then the release bearing.
5. Remove spring pins from clutch release fork and shaft using a suitable punch.
6. Install release shaft and packing, then the return spring and release fork.
7. Align lockpin holes of shift arm and control shaft, then drive in two new spring pins.
8. When installing spring pins, ensure spring pin slot direction is at right angles to center line of control shaft.
9. Remove grease from clutch facing by wiping with clean cloth.
10. Apply small amount of grease to clutch disc spline and input shaft spline.
11. Using clutch installer tool No. MD998126, or equivalent, install clutch disc and clutch cover assembly to flywheel. When installing clutch disc,
ensure surface with manufacturer's stamped mark is on pressure plate side.
