Vacuum Brake Booster: Testing and Inspection

1.

Run engine for two minutes, then turn engine off. Depress brake pedal slowly several times.

Pedal should go down further the first time and rise gradually the second and third time, Fig. 1. If this happens the booster is good condition. If
pedal height stays the same booster is faulty.

3.

With engine off, depress brake pedal several times, Fig. 1. There should be no change in pedal stroke.

4.

With brake pedal depressed, start engine. Pedal should go down slightly, if no change in pedal, booster is faulty.

5.

With engine running and brake pedal depressed, stop engine.

6.

If after 30 seconds there is no change in pedal movement, the booster is in good condition Fig. 1. If pedal rises booster is faulty.
