Inhibitor Switch: Testing and Inspection
Non Trouble Code Components
Inhibitor Switch (A/T) Circuit
To test the inhibitor switch, proceed as follows.
COMPONENT TEST
1. Disconnect the inhibitor switch connector.
2. Using an ohm meter, check for continuity between inhibitor switch terminals 8 and 9.
Continuity
Exists W/transmission in park.
Continuity
Exists W/transmission in neutral.
Continuity
Does not exist W/transmission in any other position.
HARNESS TEST:
1. With the transmission shift indicator in park or neutral, disconnect the ECU connector and the inhibitor switch connector.
2. Turn the key to the START position.
3. Using a voltmeter, check the voltage between inhibitor switch harness terminal 8 and ground.
Voltage:
System Voltage.
4. Reconnect the ECU harness connector and turn the key to the ON position
5. Using a voltmeter, check the voltage between the inhibitor harness connector terminal 8 and ground
Voltage:
No Voltage.
6. Place the transmission in PARK, reconnect the inhibitor switch connector and disconnect the ECU connector.
