Eclipse L4-1997cc 2.0L DOHC Turbo 16 Valve (1996)
Technical Service Bulletin # 96-13-023
Date: 961201
PCM - Poor Driveability/DTC's Set
NO.: TSB-96-13-023
DATE: December, 1996
MODEL: 1995-96 Eclipse 2.0L
SUBJECT:
PCM REPROGRAMMING SUMMARY AND FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
PURPOSE
Poor driveability and/or certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may be due to software programming in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The
DTC may be a "false" code set in the PCM. In most cases, using the appropriate PCM reprogramming cartridge to recalibrate the PCM will correct these
conditions.
Other Technical Service Bulletins have been previously issued to address PCM reprogramming to correct driveability and/or DTCs on affected vehicles.
This bulletin summarizes the most up-to-date PCM reprogramming information, with reference to the appropriate TSB number.
IMPORTANT:
MMSA recommends using regular unleaded fuel (without alcohol) in 1995 Eclipse models equipped with 2.0L DOHC non-turbocharged engine.
Premium unleaded or higher octane unleaded fuel may negatively affect driveability. This fuel recommendation does not apply to 1996 models that
have been reprogrammed with cartridge MIT992012.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Normal warranty procedures apply. For specific claim information, refer to the appropriate referenced TSB listed in this bulletin.
Procedure
1.
If any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are set, follow the appropriate troubleshooting steps in Section 13 in the Eclipse service manual. Make
any necessary repairs described in the service manual, then continue with Step 2.
2.
Refer to the chart in this bulletin for up-to-date PCM reprogramming information for specific DTCs and/or driveability conditions. Then refer to
the appropriate TSB referenced in the chart for repair instructions.
3.
For 1995 models with hard to start and/or rough idle condition at cold ambient temperatures or poor driveability at any ambient temperature:
a.
Follow the PCM procedures for TSB-96-13-003 to determine whether PCM requires replacement or reprogramming. Replace or reprogram
as required.
b.
Remove any moisture from the throttle body, bypass air port, intake manifold, EGR valve, and EGR pipe.
