Interior - Difficult Front Seat Sliding Effort
No: TSB-02-52A-003
Date: September, 2002
MODEL: See below
SUBJECT:
FRONT SEAT ADJUSTMENT
PURPOSE
The front seat locks should engage at the same time (synchrolock) and the front seat should slide easily. If the seat sliding effort is difficult or the seat
locks do not engage at the same time, adjust the seat slide adjusters as described in this bulletin. Perform this adjustment before considering seat track
replacement for this condition.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1999-2003 Galant
2000-2003 Eclipse
2001-2003 Eclipse Spyder
PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the plastic covers from the front and rear seat anchors.
2.
Loosen the nuts at the front of the seat.
3.
Remove the bolts at the rear of the seat.
4.
Move the seatback to the upright position and slide the seat to the most rearward position.
a.
Ensure that both tracks are locked in place at equal positions. The track release handle should be down.
5.
Tighten the outboard nut in the front anchor bracket to 24 - 35 Nm (18 - 26 ft/lbs). Then lighten the inboard nut to the same torque value.
6.
Slide the seat to the most forward position. Ensure the seat tracks are locked in place, and that the track release handle is down.
7.
Install and tighten both of the rear anchor bolts to 34 - 54 Nm (25 - 40 ft/lbs).
8.
Check the synchrolock. If the seat does not lock properly on the track, loosen the outboard rear anchor bracket bolt and move the anchor bracket
inboard approximately 2 mm. Retighten the bolt. If necessary, also adjust the inboard rear anchor bracket.
9.
Check the seat sliding effort. If the seat does not slide easily, adjust the rear anchor brackets slightly outboard, one at a time. Recheck the seat
sliding effort after each adjustment.
10.
When the synchrolock and the seat slide effort are correct, reinstall the front and rear plastic covers over the anchors.
