Door Glass - Creaking/Popping Noise

DOOR GLASS POPPING NOISE

PURPOSE

This bulletin has repair procedures for correcting a popping noise originating from the door window glass.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Customers may complain of a popping and/or creaking noise coming from the door window glass in the area around the A-pillar. This noise usually
occurs with the window closed while driving under normal conditions. This noise may be caused by lack of grease in the front glass guide or loose glass
mounting components. The noise can be eliminated by applying grease to the front glass guide and tightening the glass guide slider and window regulator
attachment points.

1995-99 Eclipse
1996-99 Eclipse Spyder

PROCEDURE

NOTE: 

The door glass does not require removal from the vehicle for the repairs described in this bulletin.

Refer to section 42 of the appropriate service manual when doing these repairs. TSB-96-42A-022 also contains related information about door and
window rattles which may be of help.

1.

Test drive the vehicle to duplicate the customer's complaint.

2.

Remove the door trim panel and the speaker and speaker housing to access the window regulator and slide mechanism.

If the vehicle has power windows, remove the switch from the door panel and reconnect it to the door harness so you can lower and/or raise the
window if necessary during the repair procedures.

If the vehicle has manual windows reinstall the window crank onto the shaft to raise and/or lower the window.
