Applies to: 2002 - 2004 ALL Models with rear drum brakes
Service tip:
If there is a customer complaint of spongy brake feel and/or increased pedal stroke, inspect:
^ Parking Brake Lever - Is the parking brake lever pulled up from its normal driving position (partially applied)?
^ Rear brake drums - Is there any blueing of the rear brake drums?
^ Parking brake cable - is the cable too tight or binding?
Rear brake drag can cause excessive brake fluid temperatures and can lead to an increase in brake pedal stroke (travel). If there is any sign of these
conditions, make necessary repairs and inform the customer to fully release the parking brake. Do not replace the master cylinder if any of these
conditions are found.
