POWER STEERING PUMP PRESSURE SWITCH
REPLACEMENT PART AVAILABILITY
PURPOSE
This bulletin introduces a new service part. The power steering pump pressure switch is now available as a separate part. Power steering pump
replacement is no longer necessary if the pressure switch fails.
Power steering pump pressure switch diagnostic and replacement procedures are included.

PROCEDURE
Repair on a customer complaint basis only.
Diagnosis
To adjust the engine speed to compensate for power steering fluid pressure variations during idling or driving conditions, the PCM determines whether
the power steering pump pressure switch turns ON or OFF. If the PCM detects a pressure switch malfunction, the "Service Engine Soon" lamp will
illuminate and DTC P0551 (Power Steering Circuit Range/Performance) or DTC P0554 (Power Steering Switch Circuit Diagnosis) will set. If either of
these codes appear, diagnose according to the steps in service manual Group 13 (Multiport Fuel Injection Diagnosis).
If replacement of the switch is required, follow the instructions below.
Switch Replacement
1.
Before removing the switch, wipe the pump clean to prevent contaminants from entering the pump.
2.
Disconnect the harness connector from the switch.
3.
Using a deep socket, loosen and remove the switch.
4.
Hand-thread the new switch into the threaded hole in the pump.
5.
Tighten the switch to 19.6 +/- 2.9 Nm (14.5 +/- 2.17 ft-lb).
NOTE: To prevent possible damage which might affect switch electrical operation, avoid contact with the terminal part of the switch during
