10. Remove the metal filler pipe protector (three 12 mm bolts).
WARNING
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN USING COMPRESSED AIR DURING THIS PROCEDURE.
11. Spray the soap-and-water mixture on the bracket and filler pipe area shown above.
Gently pull down the fuel filler pipe to access the top of the pipe. Using a Scotch~Brite(TM) or equivalent cleaning pad clean all foreign material
(mud, etc.) from the entire area.
Rinse off the soap residue with clean water, then dry with compressed air and clean shop towels.
12. Carefully inspect the bracket and fuel filler pipe area shown for rust or corrosion. A small mirror will help to view the top of the pipe.
a. If NO rust or corrosion is found, apply anti-corrosion agent ThreeBond 6153C to the fuel filler pipe assembly and install a new plastic fuel filler
pipe protector. Refer to the Anti-corrosion Agent Application & Pipe Protector Installation Procedure shown in this bulletin.
b. If ANY rust or corrosion is found on either the bracket or pipe, replace the fuel filler pipe assembly as described in the Fuel Filler Pipe
Replacement Procedure shown in this bulletin.
