HIGH MOUNT STOP LAMP LENS CRACKED

This TSB supercedes TSB-10-54-008, issued June, 2010, to add affected vehicles, revised instructions and provide a new HMSL part number. Revised
information is indicated by <.

PURPOSE

The high mount stop lamp (HMSL) lens on affected vehicles may crack vertically during hot weather due to a locating pin on the back of the lamp that
prevents expansion and contraction of the part as temperature changes. This TSB provides instructions to replace the HMSL with a new part with smaller
diameter mounting studs and no locating pin.<

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004-2011 Endeavor built before February 7, 2011<

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the HMSL using instructions in Group 54A - Chassis Electrical of the service manual.

a. Remove the upper liftgate trim disconnect the washer hose and wiring harness connector.<

b. Remove the wiring harness retaining clip from the stud and carefully cut it free from the wiring harness and discard it. Remove and discard the hmsl
retaining nuts.

A new harness clip and retaining nuts are provided with the new lamp assembly.

TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE LIFTGATE AT THE HMSL OPENING, USE THE FOLLOWING STEPS WHEN REMOVING THE HMSL.

c. Use a plastic trim stick to separate the foam seal of the HMSL from the body.

Wedge the stick between the body and the HMSL assembly and carefully slide it around the perimeter to separate the seal from the liftgate.

On vehicles with an opening liftgate glass, open the glass for easier access to the lower edge of the lamp assembly.

CAUTION

DO NOT PRY AGAINST THE LIFTGATE.

Damage to the mounting surface can cause water leaks. While pushing on the clip to release it, lift the trim stick away from the body.
