Differential Carrier: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.

3. Remove differential carrier and/or support member in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 1, noting following:
a. Remove nuts and bolts from driveshaft and companion flange then support driveshaft aside.
b. Using slide hammer tool No. MB990211-01, or equivalent, remove companion shaft from differential carrier.
c. Mark propeller shaft location for reference during assembly.
d. Remove propeller shaft bolts, then support propeller shaft aside.
e. Support differential carrier bolts using a suitable jack then remove differential carrier support bolts.
f.
Disconnect main muffler from center exhaust pipe. Support muffler with wire from frame.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
