NO.: TSB-93-13-003

DATE: August 1993

MODEL: Various (See Below)

SUBJECT:
FUEL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

FUEL PUMP FILTER REPLACEMENT

Purpose

This bulletin outlines a procedure to follow when diagnosing customer complaints related to "in-tank" conditions causing fuel starvation. Fuel starvation
can occur when the in-tank fuel filter becomes clogged. Typically, clogging will occur when contaminated fuel is inadvertently added to the tank.

NOTE:

If a fuel system malfunction still exists after performing the procedure in this bulletin, refer to the vehicle's Service Manual for further information on
diagnosis and repair.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

All vehicles with an in-tank electric fuel pump are affected by this bulletin. The list of affected vehicles includes: (see illustration).

Fuel System Diagnosis

NOTE:

Refer to the appropriate vehicle's Service Manual for details.

WARNING:

Observe all Service Manual precautions, warnings, and instructions while servicing the fuel system.

1.

Using the Scan Tool, activate the fuel pump and listen for its operational sound. If the fuel pump operates, go to Step 2.

If the fuel pump does not operate, also go to Step 2.

2.

Measure the supply voltage of the fuel pump according to instructions shown in the Service Manual. If the supply voltage is within specifications
(8 volts or more), go to Step 3.
