Valve Spring: Service and Repair

1.

Remove cylinder head as previously outlined.

2.

Using a suitable valve spring compressor, remove intake valve retainer lock, marking relative position of each to facilitate installation, Fig. 10.

3.

Remove valve spring retainer, then the valve spring.

4.

Remove valve spring seat, then the intake valves.

5.

Remove and discard valve stem seals.

6.

Using a suitable valve spring compressor, remove exhaust valve retainer lock, marking relative position of each to facilitate installation.

7.

Remove valve spring retainer, then the valve spring.

8.

Remove valve spring seat, then the exhaust valves.

9.

Remove and discard valve stem seals.

10.

Reverse procedure to assemble, noting the following:

a. Apply engine oil to each valve. Insert valves into guides, using care not to damage seal.
b. Valve spring should be installed with identification color side directed toward valve spring retainer.
c. Using a suitable valve spring compressor, compress spring and install retainer lock.
