Fig. 6 Servicing Strut Assembly
Remove, install, disassemble and assemble strut assembly in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 5 and 6, noting following:
1. Secure lower arm assembly with wire, then disconnect strut assembly from knuckle.
2. Hold spring upper seat using spring seat holder MB991176, or equivalent, then loosen, but do not remove self-locking nut.
3. Using spring compressor body and arm set, tools No. MB991237 and MB991238 or their equivalents, compress coil spring and remove
self-locking nut.
4. Line up holes in strut assembly spring lower seat with hole in spring upper seat. This is more easily accomplished using a piece of pipe 0.394 x
11.82 inches.
5. Correctly align both ends of coil spring with grooves in spring seat.
6. Apply multi-purpose grease to bearing portion of strut insulator. Do not allow grease to adhere to insulator's rubber portion.
