REMOVAL

Fig. 12  Cylinder Head, Vavles & Valve Springs

1.

Remove cylinder head as previously outlined.

2.

Using a suitable valve spring compressor, remove intake valve retainer lock, marking relative position of each to facilitate installation, Fig. 12.

3.

Remove valve spring retainer, then the valve spring.

4.

Remove valve spring seat, then the intake valves.

5.

Remove and discard valve stem seals, then the intake valve guides and seats.

6.

Using a suitable valve spring compressor, remove exhaust valve retainer lock, marking relative position of each to facilitate installation.

7.

Remove valve spring retainer, then the valve spring.

8.

Remove valve spring seat, then the exhaust valves.

9.

Remove and discard valve stem seals, then the exhaust valve guides and seats.

INSPECTION

1.

Check each valve for wear and damage or defects in valve head and stem. Replace valve if unable to repair.

2.

If stem tip has been pitted, grind stem tip slightly. Also grind valve face slightly.

3.

Check stem to guide clearance. If clearance is not within specification, replace valve and/or valve guide as necessary.

4.

Replace valve if margin of face has decreased to less than the specified values, Fig. 13.

5.

If improper contact with valve seat is evident, reseat valve.
