Silent Shaft: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

Fig. 14  Silent Shaft, Oil Pump & Front Case Components

    Refer to Fig. 14, when removing silent shaft, oil pump and front case. Keep silent shaft in position by inserting a screwdriver through plug hole in left
side of cylinder block and remove oil pump driven gear securing bolt.

INSPECTION

1.

Check gear contacting surface of front case and oil pump cover for step wear. If wear is evident, replace front case.

2.

Check silent shaft journals for wear and damage. If excessive damage or wear is evident, check bearing. If necessary, replace silent shaft and/or
bearing.
