1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch "ON" position.
3. Read the diagnosis code.

Q: Have any MFI system DTCs set?

Yes: Refer to MFI Diagnosis - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures/P Code Charts/P0513

No: Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Attempt to start the engine.

Q: Does the engine start?

YES: The procedure is complete (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to How to Use
Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points-How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).

NO: Refer to MFI Diagnosis - Symptom Chart. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Symptom

If the malfunction is not resolved, replace the immobilizer-ECU. Then register the password (secret code) and encrypted code. (Refer to Antitheft and
Alarm Systems/Service and Repair/How To Register Encrypted Code.) The engine should now start.
