MODEL 1985-1987 Galant & 1988 Galant Sigma
PURPOSE This bulletin contains new parts information to reduce a possible gurgle noise in the automatic temperature control (A.T.C.) system of
1985-1987 Galant and 1988 Galant Sigma vehicles. The gurgle or fluttering noise is most noticeable when the temperature control lever is set between
67~F and 75~F and the vehicle interior temperature has stabilized.
FIGURE 1
The gurgle noise is caused by a vibration of the water valve linkage and rod (Figure 1) as coolant passes through the valve. The vibration and gurgle
noise can be eliminated by replacing the water valve with a new modified part (P/N MB609199). The new water valve has a spring type washer on the
blend air damper lever, which reduces the free play in the linkage.
Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for the water valve removal and replacement procedures.
EFFECTIVE PRODUCTION DATE
The new water valve has been installed in 1988 Galant Sigma vehicles from November, 1987 production.
