Heater Core: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Move temperature control lever to the WARM position, then drain engine coolant.

3.

Remove instrument cluster, refer to ``Instrument Cluster, Replace'' procedure.

4.

Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission end of cable.

5.

Pull speedometer cable toward vehicle interior, then release lock by turning adapter to the left or right and remove adapter.

6.

Remove instrument panel under cover attaching screws, then the under cover.

7.

Remove underframe attaching screws located below steering column, then the underframe together with the heater duct.

8.

Remove fuse box attaching screws, then the fuse box.

9.

Remove ashtray from instrument panel, then the ashtray cover attaching screws.

10.

Disconnect ashtray illumination light electrical connector, then remove ashtray cover.

11.

Remove steering column cover.

12.

Remove steering column lower bracket and tilt bracket attaching bolts, then lower steering column downward.

13.

Remove underframe attaching bolts located on driver seat side, then the cowl side trim located on the passenger seat side.

14.

Remove blower case installation bracket, then the floor console.

15.

Remove heater cover, then the glove box assembly.

16.

Remove heater unit to underframe attaching bolts, then the undercover.

17.

Remove vacuum hose and heater control panel electrical connectors.

18.

Disconnect control wire from control panel.

19.

Remove underframe attaching bolts located on the passengers seat side. A special type of bolt with a flange is used for one of the attaching
bolts. Mark this bolt before removal to ensure correct location during installation.

20.

Remove instrument panel attaching nuts and bolts.

21.

Disconnect instrument panel electrical connectors, then remove instrument panel.

22.

Remove duct between heater unit and blower assembly.

23.

Disconnect blower motor relays, automatic temperature controller and air mixing damper control motor electrical connectors.

24.

Disconnect vacuum hoses, then the heater hose at heater unit.

25.

Remove heater unit, then the water valve cover.

26.

Disconnect water valve attaching links.

27.

Remove vacuum actuator and pipe clamps.

28.

Remove heater core from heater unit.

29.

Reverse procedure to install.
