Idle Speed: Adjustments
Equipment Hookup & Adjustment Procedures
Midpoint of range given is the preferred setting.
1989 All DOHC FI: Disconnect and ground female end of ignition timing connector. Ground terminal 10 of self-diagnostic connector (under dash). Set
idle speed. Reinstate system, turn AC on and verify the speed-up is at specified value.
1989 All SOHC FI; 1984-88 1597cc, 1795cc Turbo, 2350cc, 2555cc Turbo, 2972cc: Verify that TPS voltage is proper value. Turn ignition on for 15
seconds and turn off. Disconnect ISC servo and start engine. Set idle speed to specified value. This is not adjustable.
1985-86 Tredia, Cordia w/AT: Turn ignition on for 18 seconds and turn off. Disconnect ISC actuator and oxygen sensor, start engine. Set idle to
specified value. Verify that base idle screw is 2/3 of a turn away from the setting speed. Turn AC on and verify that speed-up speed is at specified value.
1468cc, 1986-88 1997cc Tredia, Cordia w/MT: Set idle speed to specified value. 1986-88, to set PS/Elect. speed-up, apply 12 volts to throttle opener
solenoid and adjust to specified value. To set AC speed-up, turn AC on and adjust vacuum actuator to specified value.
All Others: Set idle speed to specified value. Turn AC on and adjust speed-up speed as needed.
